Ministries of Formation

ADULT FORMATION

RCIA Program
Welcome to the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults, a journey of Faith for each of us.  Our sessions are intended for adults, 18 years and older, who want to learn more about the Catholic Faith or who want to receive any of the sacraments of initiation: Baptism, Eucharist, or Confirmation.
RCIA is the process by which adults become full members of the Roman Catholic Church.  The program is directed toward the total formation and reception into the doctrinal faith, the spiritual life of prayer, and service and fellowship of the Catholic community.  The program guides adults through periods of preparation.
Please call the Parish Office for more information.

Adult Confirmation
Everyone age 18 and older who has been baptized and has received first Holy Communion, but who is lacking the sacrament of Confirmation, participates in the Adult Confirmation Program.

YOUTH & CHILDREN'S FORMATION

Sacrament Preparation:

FIRST RECONCILIATION & FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
First Communion Preparation is a 3-year program, usually starting in the 1st grade.
Children prepare for the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Penance) and make their first confession in early Spring of the 3rd  year of preparation. First Holy Communions are celebrated in early May at the end of the 3rd year.

Please Note: In order to receive 1st communion, the child must have completed three consecutive years of sacramental preparation classes.  Parents must also attend formation sessions.

CONFIRMATION
Confirmation Preparation usually starts in the 9th grade. Students are required to complete two (2) consecutive years of instruction.
In addition to class attendance, a one-day retreat is a required part of the preparation each year, as well as participation in community service projects. Parents must also attend formation sessions.

RCIA for Children
These classes provide instruction to children over the age of 7 who have not received the Sacrament of Baptism.  This is a 3-year program.

Continuing Formation
Religious Formation - an ongoing journey.  In addition to Sacrament Preparation classes, we offer continuing religious formation for the youth of our parish. After completing First Holy Communion, our children can continue to be formed in their faith every year until they begin Confirmation preparation in high school.  At St. Luke we use the “Faith First” curriculum, published by Resources for Christian Living.  “Faith First” provides a firm foundation, based on 3 essential elements:  Doctrine, Scripture, and Liturgical Seasons.

ADULT STUDY PROGRAMS
The Parish offers a variety of groups pursuing a deeper understanding of Scripture and our Catholic Faith.  Groups meet in the mornings, afternoons and evenings, in Spanish or in English.  Please call the parish office for more information.
